What Could Be

  The light in her eyes left as she slid down to the floor. She wasn't dead, not yet. She held the phone in her hands with the simple little text that read 'I think it's best if we see other people, sorry. -AJ-'. She wanted to cry but she knew she couldn't. After just moving into a new house, she was helping her mother's friend set up a bed. Her heart had dropped to the floor along with any motivation to go to the dance that night because she knew he would be there. She wouldn't be able to handle seeing him yet. She just needed comfort. So, she started to type a text to her best friend.
    'im nt goin to the dance '

    'aww! y? wat happened?'

    'AJ broke up with me...'

    'OMG! im so sorry luv. U should still go though, so I can comfort u n if we c him we can totally kick him ass  '

    ' you always no how to cheer me up'

    'sooo, does that mean ur goin???'

    'ya, I guess I will'

  At the dance she met up with her best friend and sat down in a chair. Looking into the crowd she sees him, dancing with another girl. She tries to ignore him but her eyes always make their way back to him. Tears start to make their way out of her eyes when a slow song comes on and she is only dismayed further by the sight of him with his arms around this girl. Her best friend notices her and follows her eyes to AJ and the girl. Her eyes widen.
    "Oh hell no. He's in for it now!"
    "Please don't, just leave him alone."
  The best friend just stares at her for a moment, then settles down. The girl finally gets up and turns to her friend. An idea springing into her head.
    "come on lets have fun, I'll mope when im alone. Right now I should have fun and not let him see what he's done."
    "Ok, but I was thinking we've been best friends for a few years now and we both know how close we are…and I was just thinking, that maybe, we could be…more."
    "Are you- really?" She smiles "I think we should try it."
  So, she forgot all about AJ, and more about what this could be.
